DESCRIPTION 8 to 8V2 inches (20 to 21cm). Pink and grey-brown mottling across sides of face through underside of body. Blue above beak, at shoulder patch and on rump, much more pronounced on male. Triangular grey-white eye patch. Brown eyes. NATURAL DISTRIBUTION Central Australia. HABITAT Prairie-type areas that feature acacia bushes. The species is somewhat nocturnal. Lives in small flocks. Nests in tree hollows. DIET Seeds, fruit, insects. SPECIAL NEEDS Must have a warm, dry environment. Young birds are very wild and can injure themselves against unprotected sides of cage. CAGE LIFE Nests in tree hollows, or nest box 18 X 6 X 6 inches (45 X 15 X 15cm). Lays 4 to 5 eggs, incubation 18 days by female (fed by male throughout the period), feeding of young by both parents, fledging 28 days.
