How to ring the canary’s leg

From eight to ten days of birth of the chick, as long as it is strong and healthy, the leg will be ringed.
The ringing is performed to identify the canary and its year of birth.

1) The bird must be held as indicated in the following diagram:
2) The ring is introduced through the front three toes simultaneously. A way to assist in sliding the ring easier is to wet the legs with a little saliva. This will also help in holding the fingers together.
3) Very gently slide backwards, careful that the back finger is aligned with the leg.
4) With a smooth but firm movement, push the ring until it passes the back finger.
5) Finally, adjust ring over the base of the two fingers.
